It’s been too long since I’ve had a paying gig and frankly, I’m becoming depressed. Yes, there are always those little side jobs that puts organic flax seed oil in my fridge, but who goes to school for that? Nobody I know. We all went to school to get careers we’d actually enjoy, feel proud of. No one pulls all nighters, trying to remember the key difference between The Romantics and The Realist just to be asking ‘Would you like extra foam on that latte?’ six months later.
Someone-a very reputable and successful someone-once confided in me that you could do all the right things and still not get what you want. She’s right-unfortunately. That’s why I find myself more and more trying to hold the tears at bay by running away from my current situation-on the treadmill.
According to experts, running-and other types of exercises-can ease stress and anxiety. This is good, because I believe in white-knuckling it through life. No Xanax for me.
Running also can help prevent disease, which is nice to know when you don’t have health insurance.
Best of all, running is free because the world really is a giant treadmill. Even city dwellers can find a place to run, like the street. Though, I don’t really recommend it.
I already went running today, but I’m about to hit the pavement again. Really, what else do I have to do?
